The book

The question of re-birth, or “reincarnation”, is discussed here in the Theravāda buddhist tradition, flourishing in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos.
This study is based on a double postulate: on the one hand, the Buddha provides the clearest and most complete answer to the question of re-births which intrigues so much of the West; on the other hand, the question of re-birth is a fundamental, which best allows us to understand Buddhism.
Against certain contemporary views that seek to give Buddhism the image of a pure philosophy or a simple psychology, this book shows that the question of re-birth is at the very heart of Buddhism, that it gives it its meaning, that it even justifies its existence.
The teachings of the Buddha encompassing a whole, the exploration of the question of re-births not only makes it possible to answer a singular interrogation but also to go to the heart of Buddhism.
Including 1,000 quotations of the Pāli Canon translated by the author, an index, a glossary and a commented bibliography, Buddhism and re-births is a reference work.
